1984 Apple Macintosh Commercial in 4K
Forty years ago โ on January 22, 1984, during the Super Bowl โ Apple aired its now iconic Macintosh commercial, directed by Ridley Scott.
Those of us who watched it then did so on cathode ray TV screens much smaller than the flat panels ubiquitous today, with far worse resolution.

If you want to be a know-it-all, it technically aired twice, once on a small station in Idaho(?) to qualify for the Advertising Industry awards (since SB is in early part of the NEXT year) ... in the US, the big award is the Clio awards but there are others like the ONE Club award (NYC award but started at a time when 95% of the big agencies were in NYC). Cannes also gives out ad awards so I'm presuming the 1984 one racked up a few wins around the globe. The Emmys started giving awards for ads but not until the ast few years.

IIRC this Apple commercial aired only once. The fact that everyone instantly recognizes it speaks volumes for the outstanding work of the writers, producers, and director.
Are there awards for such broadcast commercials?
