'Presumed Guilty' — Scott Turow
His new novel is compulsively readable, so much so that about halfway through I thought to myself "I'm so glad this is not my bedtime reading book because if it were I'd stay up all night reading it."
That was the point when the story took a sharp turn and became like a lit firecracker.
When his first novel, "Presumed Innocent," came out of nowhere in 1987 it instantly became a phenomenon, it was so popular.
I remember reading it and being amazed at how good this first novel by an unknown young lawyer was.
Turow's books are vastly different from those of John Grisham, whose novels I no longer read because they don't grab me the way his early ones did.
Sarah Lyall interviewed Turow about "Presumed Guilty" and much else: read her New York Times piece here.
Read the first 34 pages of "Presumed Guilty" here.
